Over the two years since the foundation of the Ukrainian Cyber Army, a volunteer IT-organization, it has seized about $13 million in 347 accounts of terrorists without the possibility of funds recovery, the organization`s founder, Yevhen Dokukin, wrote on Facebook.
”According to my estimates, at least $13 million was held in those accounts [in various currencies],” Dokukin reported.
The Ukrainian Cyber Army has dealt a serious blow to the financing of terrorism, Dokukin wrote.
In response to UNIAN inquiry, Dokukin said that some separatists were still trying to recover their money, but those accounts just cannot be revived.
Since its foundation in 2014, the organization has blocked and shut down 160 websites launched by separatists. The Ukrainian hacktivists have also cracked certain Russian e-mail addresses, servers, as well as pages on social networks. Also, the Ukrainian IT-volunteers gained covert control over more than 200,000 network devices in Donetsk and Luhansk regions, occupied Crimea and Russia.
”In total, we have seized 600 GB of data belonging to `DPR` [Donetsk People`s Republic] and `LPR` [Luhansk People`s Republic] and Russia,” Dokukin said.
As UNIAN reported earlier, in February 2016 Dokukin stated that major social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, as well as Google company were ignoring requests from Ukrainian IT-volunteers to block profiles of terrorists that are subject to U.S. sanctions. According to Dokukin, his organization has repeatedly appealed to Google company requesting it to block sites and accounts of terrorists who were spreading provocative information, but 99% of the requests were rejected.
The Ukrainian Cyber Army is an IT volunteer organization founded in June 2014 specializing on online defensive and offensive measures aimed to counter separatist and terrorist activity, as well as to fight Russia`s information war against Ukraine.
