Ukraine, Turkey intensify talks on free trade area

Ukraine and Turkey have agreed to intensify negotiations on the creation of a free trade area.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin said this at a joint press conference with his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu in Kyiv on Monday, a Ukrinform correspondent reported.
“We have agreed to actively hold talks on the creation of our future free trade area,” Klimkin said.
He said that Ukrainian-Turkish relations were strategic. Klimkin also thanked Cavusoglu for supporting the territorial integrity of Ukraine, President Petro Poroshenko’s peace plan to resolve the situation in Donbas and for the provision of humanitarian aid.
Cavusoglu, in turn, said that “the signing of a free trade agreement will bring our joint trade to new horizons.” He said that in 2013 the trade turnover between the two countries amounted to $6.7 billion, which is “well below our potential.”
He also said that a meeting of the Ukrainian-Turkish high-level strategic group was scheduled for the first quarter of 2015.
