Ukraine, Poland step up defense cooperation

A General Agreement between the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Government of the Republic of Poland on Cooperation in Defense Sphere was signed on Friday, December 2, according to the Ukrainian president`s press service.

The document was signed by Minister of Defense of Ukraine Stepan Poltorak and Minister of National Defense of Poland Antoni Macierewicz after negotiations of delegations headed by Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and President of Poland Andrzej Duda, the press service reported.

The General Agreement was elaborated under the Law of Ukraine on International Treaties of Ukraine pursuant to the initiative of the Polish side.

The purpose of the document is to create legal framework for the development of cooperation between the parties in defense sphere on the principles of reciprocity.

The agreement is expected to have positive influence on defense capacity of the state, develop military-industrial complex and the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as provide the opportunity of launching new important forms of cooperation.
