Ukraine harvests 61 mln tonnes of grain by Nov 23

Ukrainian farmers had harvested 61 million tonnes of grain by November 23 from 13.5 million ha, or 94% of the planned areas, according to the Ukrainian Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry`s press service.

The average yield capacity was 4.51 tonnes per hectare, it said.

The yield of maize was 21.7 million tonnes gathered from 3.5 million ha (82% of the planned area).

Buckwheat was harvested from 150,000 ha (100% of the target), the yield was 191,000 tonnes. Farmers harvested 191,000 tonnes of millet from 104,000 ha (100%).

The ministry says that the sunflower seed harvesting campaign is nearing completion. Some 13.3 million tonnes of sunflower seeds were harvested from 5.9 million ha (99% of the target).

Soybeans were harvested from 1.8 million ha (96%), its yield was 4 million tonnes.

Farmers also harvested 12.4 million tonnes of sugar beets on an area of 260,000 ha (89%).

The highest yields are recorded in Vinnytsia region (5.5 million tonnes), Odesa region (4.5 million tonnes), and Poltava region (4.2 million tonnes).

The highest yield capacity per ha was reported in Vinnytsia region (6.51 tonnes), Cherkasy region (6.37 tonnes), Kyiv region (6.00 tonnes), and Khmelnytsky region (5.75 tonnes).

The ministry projects that the total yield of grain in Ukraine in 2016 will be about 64 million tonnes.
