Ukraine has raised the volume of natural gas imports from Slovakia to 2 million cubic meters per day, up from yesterday when imports totaled 0.5 million cubic meters, according to a spokesman for the national gas transportation system operator, the state-owned Ukrtransgaz, Maksym Bilyavskiy.
”Ukraine has increased gas imports from Slovakia fourfold to 2 million cubic meters per day,” Bilyavskiy wrote on Facebook.
As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukraine has not purchased gas from the Russian energy giant Gazprom for 231 consecutive days.
At the conclusion of the 2015-2016 heating season, Ukraine stopped taking gas from its underground reserves from April 7 and started refilling the storage facilities.
From June 1, according to Slovakia`s GTS operator Eustream, Ukraine had reduced daily natural gas imports from Slovakia fourfold compared to May of this year, dropping from 1.9 million cubic meters to 488,000 cubic meters per day.
Ukraine`s gas reserves on July 2-9 increased by 1.2%, or 115 million cubic meters, rising from 9.729 billion cubic meters to 9.844 billion cubic meters.
Ahead of the upcoming heating season, NSJC Naftogaz of Ukraine intends to accumulate some 14.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas in the country`s underground storage facilities.
