Two-thirds of Ukrainians want to be in EU, half want Ukraine to join NATO

Most Ukrainians – 64% – support Ukraine’s accession to the European Union, whereas the number of supporters of the Customs Union has significantly dropped, according to a poll conducted by the Rating Group.
“Sixty-four percent of respondents support Ukraine’s accession to the EU, 17% to the Customs Union, and 19% are undecided,” reads the statement.
According to the statement, the number of supporters of accession to the EU has been increasing since April (from 55% in April to 64% in November), while the percentage of supporters of Ukraine’s accession to the Customs Union of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan has been falling (from 24% in April to 17% in November).
Ukraine’s accession to the EU is supported by most of those polled in the western, northern, central, eastern and southern regions. Only in Donbas the majority of people want Ukraine to join the Customs Union.
If a referendum on Ukraine’s accession to NATO were held, half of respondents (51%) would vote for Ukraine’s accession to the alliance, and 25% would vote against this. Another quarter of respondents was undecided or would not take part in this referendum.
The number of supporters of Ukraine’s joining NATO has been growing since April. The highest level of support was recorded in November (from 40% in April to 51% in November), with a simultaneous reduction in the number of opponents (from 46% in April to 25% in November).
Almost half of respondents (48%) support the initiative to cancel Ukraine’s non-aligned status at the legislative level, and nearly a third (28%) are against it. A quarter was undecided.
The survey was conducted on November 6-13, 2014 through personal interviews. A total of 2,000 respondents were interviewed. The poll’s margin of error does not exceed 2.8%.
