Russian gas transit via Ukraine up by one-third in 1H 2016

Transit shipments of Russian gas via Ukraine to the European Union in January-June 2016 increased by 31% year-over-year, to 38 billion cubic meters (bcm), according to Ukrtransgaz, the operator of the country`s gas transportation system.
”Transit of Russian gas to Europe increased by 31%. Almost 38 bcm have already been transported,” the report says.
As UNIAN reported earlier, transit supplies of Russian gas through Ukraine to the EU in 2014 decreased by 29.1%, to 59.4 bcm as compared to 2013, and they increased by 8% in 2015, to 67.1 bcm as compared to 2014.
According to the transit contract concluded between Ukraine and Russia, Russian energy giant Gazprom must transfer at least 110 bcm of natural gas through the Ukrainian pipeline system annually.
