President sees no alternative to Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic course

Ukraine’s membership of the EU and NATO is the road that has no alternatives.
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said this during a traditional pre-New Year diplomatic reception for the heads of diplomatic missions and representatives of foreign states, the presidential press service reported.
“Being part of Europe is the only possible form of existence for Ukraine… The Ukrainian people are fighting for their freedom, dignity and opportunity to walk the chosen path. Ukrainians have already paid a very high price for their freedom,” the president said, noting that the signing of the Association Agreement with the EU in 2014 has become a strategic step and that the authorities will do everything possible to conduct reforms and implement the agreement.
The president reiterated that Ukraine would never accept the annexation of Crimea.
“The struggle for Crimea’s return will continue until justice and historical truth are restored,” he said.
Poroshenko thanked the countries for the support of Ukraine, including the United States for adopting the Ukraine Freedom Support Act, as well as Canada, Japan, Australia and the European countries.
“Ukraine’s struggle for independence, territorial integrity and sovereignty has become the moment of truth in our relations with the world’s countries… I am appealing to the whole world to join us in our fight. Join Ukraine in its cause – the cause of peace, reforms and affirmation of human dignity and freedom,” the president said.
