Poroshenko wants to speed up probe into crimes on Maidan

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has stressed the importance of speeding up the investigation into all crimes committed against protesters on the Maidan and urged the investigating authorities to speed up their work.
He said this at a meeting with the heads of law enforcement agencies on Wednesday, the presidential press office reported.
“Today there is very great demand in society for the effective investigation into crimes that were committed on the Maidan… We simply have no right to delay this case. No death should be left without the liability of those who executed and organized the execution of these crimes,” Poroshenko said.
He said that the fact that the suspects in these crimes were fugitives was not obstructing their conviction and prosecution.
“The law that I initiated gives us grounds for conviction in absentia,” he said.
