PM wants to open investment promotion agency

Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman announces that the Ukrainian government has been tasked with the creation of an agency to encourage investment in Ukraine.
”We`ll set up an investment promotion agency soon. This is our home task,” Groysman said at the 5th Annual Sweden-Ukraine Business Forum hosted by Kyiv on June 13.
The prime minister stated that the government now needs to focus on creating conditions that would be conducive to investment in Ukraine. ”The government`s task is to introduce reasonable regulation, stabilize the system so that you [investors] could plan investment in the economy,” Groysman said.
”I have no doubt that we will create conditions for investment,” he added.
In this context, Groysman noted that Ukraine had already adopted a sufficient number of anti-corruption legislative initiatives, and would introduce judicial changes that are needed to make the country`s investment climate better.
As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukraine is going to become a member of the Investment Committee of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), which will enable direct contacts between Ukrainian businesses with potential investors. The OECD Investment Committee on December 11, 2015, approved Ukraine`s application to join the Declaration on International Investment and Multinational Enterprises.
The Declaration says that all the signatory states should ensure clear and transparent conditions for international investment and involve businesses in social projects.
In March 2016, Ukraine`s Cabinet of Ministers authorized the Ukrainian Economy Ministry to become the hub of international investment issues.
The ministry estimates that Ukraine may attract up to $5 billion in foreign direct investment this year, almost twice as high as during the 2014-2015 period.
