Over 40% of Russian top managers want to leave country

Almost every sixth Russian top manager plans to move to another country in the next two years, Russian news agency RBC reports, with reference to a study carried out by the Agency Contact headhunting company.
In addition, some more top managers – 42% – are going to emigrate.
In May 2016, the company interviewed 467 top managers of Russian and international companies. Expats were not included in the sample, a representative of the Agency Contact said.
”The desire of top managers to move abroad can really become a trend in the next few years,” says Director of Business Development of the Agency Contact Anastasia Staseva. On the one hand, people who want to build their business especially in high-tech and innovative industries, say that a person can avoid a lot of obstacles abroad, which are associated with the development of own business in Russia and because of which ”we often hear of the lack of support for private businesses on the part of the authorities.” In addition, it is easier to find investors in the U.S. and Europe, who are acting on the principle ”I will invest in order not to miss out on something worthwhile,” while Russians have a more common approach ”I will not invest in order not to fail,” says the expert. Another decisive factor is the quality of life. At the same time, the top managers are competent enough to decide on the move and organize appropriate conditions – to find a job, start a business, Staseva explains.
According to the survey, 42% of respondents mull ”moving to another country.” Almost half of them — 48% — believe they will be employed in another company in the case of emigration, 31% want to open a business, and 20% believe that they can live on the proceeds from the rental of real estate in Russia. The most popular countries for a possible move – the United States (22%), Germany (17%) and the UK (11%).
