Merkel and Hollande want to offer Putin a peace plan to resolve the conflict in Eastern Ukraine

On February 6, after their visit to Ukraine, French President François Hollande and German Chancellor Angela Merkel are going to Russia to hold the meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The EU leaders had a secret closed meeting with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko on February 5. During the meeting that lasted more than five hours were discussed such urgent topics as a new peace plan to stop the conflict in East Ukraine, ceasefire, the withdrawal of foreign troops, withdrawal of heavy equipment and weapons, the border closure and the release of Ukrainian pilot Nadia Savchenko and all other hostages.

During the meeting in Moscow Russian President Vladimir Putin, French President Francois Hollande and German Chancellor Angela Merkel are going to talk about Minsk agreements reached in September 2014 and the ways to stop the further escalation of the conflict in Eastern Ukraine. As it is known the EU leaders want to present a new proposal to Putin on the peaceful resolution of the conflict in the Donbas.

“Weapons deliveries would be a fire accelerant,such move could give the Kremlin the excuse to openly intervene in this conflict”, had said Germany’s Defense Minister, Ursula von der Leyen.

Hollande and Merkel will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the evening on February 6, 2015
