Kremlin comments on arms expo incident with Putin

The Kremlin has laughed off the incident involving one of the Russian generals who tore off a door handle from the military UAZ-Patriot offroad vehicle while showing a new model to Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to an UNIAN correspondent in Russia.

”Let`s not go too far with the reaction, especially do not expect any reprimands… This story has no relation to the quality of the vehicle,” Peskov told journalists in Moscow.

He suggested referring to such oddities ”with humor and goodwill.”

Peskov said that the car handle had already been reattached.

A curious incident occurred when Russian President Vladimir Putin examined new military equipment in Sochi on May 12. Leading an excursion, General Alexander Shevchenko tried to open the door of the vehicle, but he failed to do this at the first attempt. At the second try, he tore off the handle.

”Good job,” Putin said with irony.

The authorities claim that UAZ-Patriot ”has an automatic door lock.” The ignition must be on to open the doors.
