IMF advises Ukraine to develop pension reform ASAP

Ukraine must now develop the pension reform, which will provide stability of the pension system to eliminate the deficit of the Pension Fund and the implementation of the medium-term budget planning, Jerome Vacher, the IMF`s envoy to Ukraine, said during the round table in Kyiv.
According to Vacher, Ukraine needs to see the horizon in the long term of more than two years, and this is particularly important in the context of the pension reform. Measures that could ensure stability of the pension system need to be taken right now so that the effect is evident at the stage of the mid-term budget planning. It is important to plan these measures because the deficit of the Pension Fund reached UAH 145 billion, according to Vacher.
Important aspects of the medium-term planning are also financing the defense and education sectors, which also require reforms and system solutions, Vacher said.
