Germany calls on Ukraine to introduce land market and facilitate investment

State Secretary at Germany`s Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy Matthias Machnig has stated Germany expects that Ukraine will create a land market to facilitate financing of relevant projects and attract investment into the country.

The statement was made during the Ukrainian-German Business Forum which is held in Kyiv.

Machnig said it was necessary to carry out the land reform to enable the entry of foreign investors to Ukraine, create the possibility to buy land and safely operate on it.

He also noted that the German government`s investment in Ukraine would focus on the country`s energy sector with the aim of enhancing the energy efficiency. At this, Machnig said that a significant increase in investments will depend on Ukraine`s continued implementation of its reform program.

As UNIAN reported earlier, on October 6 the Ukrainian parliament extended until 2018 the moratorium on farmland sales, which has been put in place since 2001. At the same time, the introduction of the land market is a new benchmark under the cooperation program with the International Monetary Fund, Ukraine`s key creditor.
