Gazprom offers ”good” price of gas to Ukraine

Russia has offered Ukraine a ”good” price for gas in the third quarter of 2016, Russian news agency RBC reported citing Deputy Chairman of the Management Board at Gazprom Alexander Medvedev.
As known, NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine has refused to buy Russian gas at a price proposed by Russia`s energy giant Gazprom, arguing that it was not competitive.
Ukraine stopped buying Russian gas in November 2015. The reason was that the price offered by the Russian company was higher than that offered by European suppliers, according to Naftogaz. However, in June Naftogaz sent a letter to Gazprom offering to resume gas supplies at an ”economically justified price.”
Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak said the contract price of Russian gas for Ukraine set at $177 per 1,000 cubic meters in the third quarter of 2016 was ”absolutely comfortable” and corresponded to the market conditions.
At this, Naftogaz Business Development Director Yuriy Vitrenko wrote on Facebook that the price of natural gas offered by the European suppliers was below $173.
Vitrenko noted that Ukraine would make all necessary purchases of gas on the European market.
