EU notes Ukraine’s significant progress in implementation of action plan on visa liberalization

New EU Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship Dimitris Avramopoulos, at a meeting with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin in Brussels, has noted significant progress made by Ukraine in the implementation of the second phase of the action plan on visa liberalization, the press service of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry reported on Monday.
“Avramopoulos confirmed the priority nature of the EU dialogue with Ukraine on migration and visa issues, noting significant progress made by the Ukrainian side in the implementation of the second phase of the action plan,” reads the report.
Following the meeting, the sides agreed to promote an open dialogue on current migration and visa issues, the ministry said.
Avramopoulos said that the European Union was committed to continue promoting visa liberalization with Ukraine.
Klimkin, in turn, stressed the importance for Ukraine to conduct anti-corruption reforms and implement the initiatives aimed at the introduction of biometric passports.
In addition, Klimkin said that the EU must comply with the provisions of an enhanced agreement on the simplification of the visa regime between Ukraine and the EU.
