The change in Crimea status within Russia means the peninsula is going to be a subject of Russian ”unified state policy”. Moscow is going to ”cleanse” the region until it meets the standards of the so-called Russian world, says Crimean Tatar Mejlis leader Refat Chubarov, according to Ukraine Today.
”This move indicates that Russian leadership plans to treat Crimea as every other Russian region where unified state policy is applied. It means ethnic, historic and cultural diversity in the region will exist as a cover until Crimea is cleansed enough to meet the `Russian world` standards,” Chubarov posted on Facebook, Ukraine Today reported.
As UNIAN reported earlier, according to a decree issued by Russian President Vladimir Putin, the ”Crimean Federal District” has been abolished as an independent unit. It is now part of the Southern Federal District of the Russian Federation.
