Banks owing UAH 33.8 billion to National Bank

Ukraine’s banking system should return UAH 33.8 billion in refunding to its regulator – the National Bank of Ukraine.
National Bank governor Varleria Hontareva said this at a briefing on Tuesday, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.
“The amount of the issued refunding is currently UAH 33.8 billion,” she said.
Hontareva added: “When I hear that the National Bank of Ukraine issued UAH 90 billion as refunding, then I want to inform everybody once again that now, over the entire history of independent Ukraine, the refunding portfolio issued by the National Bank to the banking system is UAH 110 billion, or 7% of GDP. Believe me, compared to the world practice, 7% of GDP issued as refunding is quite a small figure,” Hontareva said.
