Russian-backed militants have been widely using the categories of mortars and artillery in Donbas that were banned under the Minsk peace agreement, according to the press service of the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) headquarters.
”In the Donetsk sector, the enemy used 122mm artillery systems to shell our positions in the village of Mykolaivka Druha and 120mm mortars to attack the town of Avdiyivka, and the villages of Zaitseve, Semyhirya, Novoselivka, and Novoselivka Druha,” the ATO HQ wrote Wednesday morning on Facebook.
The villages of Novhorodske and Dacha were, at that time, being shelled by 82mm mortars. Further, the enemy used 82mm mortars, grenade launchers of various types, large-caliber machine-guns and small arms to shell Ukrainian troops based in Avdiyivka.
ATO forces stationed in the town of Krasnohorivka in the Mariupol sector were also shelled by banned 122mm artillery and 120mm mortars. Additionally, they lobbed 82mm mortar shells into the village of Hnutove and fired large-caliber machine-guns at the Ukrainian army in the village of Shyrokyne, which is close to the strategic Ukrainian-controlled port city of Mariupol.
Ukrainian troops in the town of Maryinka also reported being fired upon by snipers.
Further, the Luhansk sector reported barrages from grenade launchers and large-caliber machine-guns near the village of Stanytsia Luhanska, while the village of Krymske was under random, chaotic fire.
In total, Russian proxies attacked the Ukrainian side 41 times in the past 24 hours, including 19 attacks in the Donetsk sector, 18 in the Mariupol sector, and four in the Luhansk sector.
