President of the European Parliament: Sanctions against Russia to be maintained until full implementation of Minsk deal

President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz said in Brussels Thursday that the sanctions against the Russian Federation would remain in place until Minsk agreements are fully implemented.

”Sanctions will be maintained and they will continue to be applied until Minsk agreements are completely fulfilled,” – said Schulz in his doorstep statement before the start of the EU summit, adding that the Minsk deal must be implemented by all parties to the conflict.

Poroshenko and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, both of whom took part in the Normandy Four talks in Berlin Wednesday.

”Now I feel that there is no sufficient progress, but I`ve been told the atmosphere was more constructive than expected,” Schultz said.

As UNIAN reported earlier, on October 19 talks were held in Berlin between President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Francois Hollande and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

At a briefing after the talks, Poroshenko said that the Normandy Four leaders had approved French and German proposals for the base of the ”road map” for the implementation of Minsk agreements.

Also, the Ukrainian president said that Russia supported the need for the deployment of an armed OSCE police mission in Donbas.

In addition, according to Poroshenko, the leaders agreed to continue at the level of experts and working groups preparing the concept of the electoral law for the Donbas elections.
