”1st combat test”: Poroshenko links liberation of Slaviansk with revival of Ukrainian army

The liberation of the town of Slaviansk form the Russian-backed militants became a turning point in the revival of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said during celebrations in Slaviansk on the occasion of the second anniversary of the liberation of the northern towns of Donetsk region from the Russian-backed terrorists, according to an UNIAN correspondent.
The president congratulated the residents of the towns of Slaviansk and Kramatorsk, the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the whole Ukraine with the second anniversary of the liberation of the northern towns of Donetsk region. ”Those days became a turning point in the fate of Slaviansk, in its history. In those days, Ukraine demonstrated to the whole world how strongly the Ukrainians came to the defense of freedom, democracy, independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of our state,” he said.
”Those days in July can rightly be considered momentous, a turning point in the revival of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, because it was then that the Ukrainian military had passed their first combat test in this truly patriotic war,” Poroshenko said.
”In fact, it was a test, which not every army in the world is able to pass, and it is especially important that the Ukrainian troops managed to pass it so quickly, having created the new Armed Forces of Ukraine,” he said.
