Operational report August 17, 2022 by the General Staff of AFU on the Russian invasion of Ukraine

The brave Ukrainian people’s resistance to a Russian military invasion is still going strong after 175 days.

In the directions of Volyn, Polissya, and Siverskyi, nothing changed. The Russian army is increasing the positional fortification equipment in Siverskyi, Ukraine. It conducted artillery bombardment close to the Sumy oblast cities of Chernihivske, Pavlivka, and Hudove.

Russian soldiers shelled the Ukrainian towns of Kharkiv, Nova Mykolayivka, Dementiyivka, Korobochkyne, Pechenihy, Ruski Tyshky, Odnorobivka, Lebiazhe, Nove, Svitlychne, Sosnivka, and Rubizhne in the direction of Kharkiv using tanks, barrel and jet artillery.

Russian occupants attempted to breach Ukrainian forces’ defence and advance onto the Lebyazhe and Bazaliyivka communities but failed.

In the direction of Sloviansk, Russian troops used MLRS and barrel artillery fire to try to harm our units and destroy civil infrastructure facilities in the towns of Brazhkivka, Dibrivny, Mazanivka, Dolyna, and Dovgenky.

Russian occupiers attempted to push on Novodmytrivka and Mazanivka but failed and turned back.

Russia used tanks and artillery to fire in the Ukrainian urban areas of Mykolayivka, Kramatorsk, Verkhniokamianske, Tetianivka, Serebrianka, Hryhorivka, and Rayhorodok directions in an effort to push Ukrainian soldiers out of the seized positions. It made an airstrike close to Vesele and Ivano-Daryivka.

Russian invaders made an unsuccessful attempt to use assault activities to strengthen their tactical position in the direction of the Vesele village in Ukraine.

Russian shelling was reported close to Bakhmut, Zaytseve, Yakovlivka, Bilohorivka, and Maiorsk in the direction of Bakhmut. The occupants launched an aerial attack close to Soledar.

Russian troops attempted to go forward with some success in the area of Novomykhaiylivka but failed to do so in the direction of Shevchenko.

The Russian army is still concentrating its efforts in the direction of South Buh on defending seized locations and preventing the Defense Forces from setting up a favourable environment for a counteroffensive. It is attempting to lose as many Ukrainian defence forces at the contact line as possible by using all of the firepowers at its disposal. It continues to use unmanned aerial vehicles to undertake aerial surveillance.

Russian occupiers carried conducted airstrikes close to Ukrainian towns of Posad-Pokrovske, Bila Krynytsya, Lozove, and Bilohirka.
They made an effort to strengthen their tactical position in Bilohirka’s direction. The Russian invaders’ intentions were entirely foiled by Ukrainian defenders, who also forced them back to their original positions.

The Russian Federation’s naval group is still working to assist the activities of the ground group of Russian forces in the water zones of the Black and Azov seas in Ukraine. Two Russian carriers for sea-based cruise missiles are prepared to fire highly accurate weapons.

It is recorded that Russian occupants experience setbacks, get disheartened, and search for any excuse to avoid confrontations. They pretend to have a minor wound, turn to self-mutilation, and engage in other simulations. Russian officer orders are being sabotaged more frequently, especially when they include objectionable behaviour.
