The 462nd day of the Russia-Ukraine War: official operational information by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on 31.05.2023.

Russian army’s attacks on civilian infrastructure

During the day, the Russian army launched 2 missile strikes and 22 airstrikes, carrying out approximately 20 shelling from multiple rocket launch systems on the positions of Ukrainian troops and populated areas.

The likelihood of missile and airstrikes being carried out across the territory of Ukraine remains high.

The Russian army continues to concentrate its main efforts on attempts to fully occupy the Luhansk and Donetsk regions. Over the course of the day, Ukrainian troops repelled 16 Russian attacks.

Operational situation on Ukrainian directions

  • The operational situation remains stable in the Volyn and Polissya directions, with no signs of Russian offensive formations detected.
  • In the Siversk and Slobodzhansk directions, the Russian army continues to maintain military presence in the border areas with Ukraine. It carried out mortar and artillery shelling of the populated areas of Halahanivka in the Chernihiv Oblast, Seredyna-Buda, Fotovysh, Horky, Atyne in the Sumy Oblast, as well as Udy, Hoptivka, Lyptsi, Strylecha, Zelene, Ternova, Staritsya, Hatysche, Vovchansk, Pletenivka, Vovchanski Khutory, Ohirtseve, Mala Vovcha, Varvarivka, Chuhunivka, Ambarne, Hryhorivka in the Kharkiv Oblast.
  • In the Kupiansk direction, the Russian army conducted unsuccessful offensive actions west of Masyutivka in the Kharkiv Oblast and in the areas of Novoselivka and Stelmakhivka in the Luhansk Oblast. It carried out airstrikes in the areas of Kyslivka and Kotliarivka in the Kharkiv Oblast. Russian artillery and mortar shelling affected Krasne Pershe, Fiholivka, Novomlynsk, Zakhidne, Masyutivka, Kyslivka, Berestove in the Kharkiv Oblast, and Novoselivske in the Luhansk Oblast.
  • In the Lyman direction, Russian soldiers conducted unsuccessful offensive actions in the area of Biloherivka. They carried out airstrikes in the areas of Terniv and Siverska in the Donetsk Oblast. Russian artillery shelling affected Nevske, Biloherivka in the Luhansk Oblast, and Novosadove, Torske, Spirne in the Donetsk Oblast.
  • In the Bakhmut direction, Russian troops conducted unsuccessful offensive actions towards Orikhovo-Vasylivka and Bila Hora. The towns of Kramatorsk, Vasiukivka, Orikhovo-Vasylivka, Novomarkove, Hryhorivka, Chasiv Yar, Ivanivske, Predtechyne, Bila Hora, Diliivka, Zalizne, and New York in the Donetsk Oblast were affected by Russian artillery shelling.
  • In the Avdiivka direction, the Russian army did not conduct offensive operations. It launched an air strike in the Avdiivka area of the Donetsk region. Russian soldiers carried out artillery shelling of the settlements Novokalynove, Orlivka, Avdiivka, Tonenke, Sverne, Netaylove, Karlivka, Pervomaiske, Nevelske in the Donetsk Oblast
  • In the Marinka direction, Ukrainian troops repelled all Russian attacks in the area of the city of Marinka. The Russian army launched an air strike there, and artillery shelling affected Kurakhove, Maksymilianivka, Hryhorivka, Mariinka, Pobeda, Yelyzavetivka, Katerinivka, Kostiantynivka, and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region.
  • In the Shakhtarsk direction, the Russian army carried out airstrikes in the areas of Vuhledar and Prechystivka. It conducted shelling of the settlements Bohoyavlenske, Vuhledar, Novoukrainka, Prechystivka, Zolota Nyva, Shakhtarske, and Velyka Novosilka.
  • In the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson directions, the Russian army continues defensive actions. It shelled the settlements adjacent to the contact line, including Vremivka, Vilne Pole, Novosilka, Zelene Pole, Novopil, Temirivka in the Donetsk Oblast; Olhivske, Malynivka, Hulyaipole, Zaliznychne, Hulyaipilske, Mala Tokmachka, Novodanilivka, Novoandriivka, and Stepove Kamianske in the Zaporizhzhia Oblast; Berislav, Kozatske, Ivanivka, Antonivka, Komyshani, Dniprovke, Kizomys, Shyroka Balka in the Kherson Oblast, and the city of Kherson.

Ukrainian aviation and artillery response

During the day, the aviation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine carried out 9 strikes on Russian personnel and military equipment concentration areas. Ukrainian troops destroyed 2 Russian reconnaissance UAVs.

Units of missile troops and artillery hit 1 command post, 1 artillery unit in firing position, 2 ammunition depots, and 2 radio-electronic warfare stations of the Russian army during the day.
