General Staff operational report May 22, 2023 on the Russian invasion of Ukraine

The 453rd day of the Russia-Ukraine War: official operational information by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on 22.05.2023.

Russian aggression and tactics of terror

The Russian army is not giving up on its intentions for the complete occupation of Ukraine. It cynically continues to employ tactics of terror.

During this day, the Russian Federation conducted another massive missile and air strike on civilian and critical infrastructure objects in Ukraine. In total, Russian troops launched 21 missile strikes on the cities of Dnipro, Zaporizhia, and populated areas in the Kharkiv region, using 4 air-launched cruise missiles X-101/X-555 (destroyed by Ukrainian military ), 5 Kh-22 cruise missiles, 2 Iskander-M ballistic missiles, and 5 S-300 surface-to-air guided missiles, as well as 4 others (the type is being determined).

Additionally, Russian soldiers carried out 42 airstrikes, including the use of Iranian combat UAVs Shahed. According to updated information, Ukrainian troops destroyed 21 out of 21 drones. Furthermore, Russian military conducted approximately 50 shelling attacks with multiple launch rocket systems on Ukrainian military positions and populated areas. Unfortunately, there are casualties among the civilian population, and residential apartment buildings, private houses, a kindergarten, and other civilian infrastructure have been damaged.

The likelihood of missile and air strikes across the entire territory of Ukraine remains very high. The Russian army continues to concentrate its main efforts on the Kupiansk, Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdiivka, and Marinka directions. In total, there were 25 clashes on the mentioned sections of the front during the day, with Bakhmut and Marinka remaining the epicenters of the conflict.
