General Staff operational report August 25, 2023 on the Russian invasion of Ukraine

The 548th day of the Russia-Ukraine War: official operational information by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on 25.08.2023.

Russia’s attacks on the civilian infrastructure in Ukraine

During the day, the Russian army conducted 2 missile and 39 aerial strikes, carried out 72 barrages from rocket artillery systems on the positions of Ukrainian troops and civilian settlements. As a result of successful combat operations by the Air Force, 2 Kalibr cruise missiles and 1 strike UAV Shahed-136/131 were destroyed today. Unfortunately, due to Russian terrorist attacks, there are casualties and injuries among the civilian population. Residential buildings, schools, and other civilian infrastructure have suffered damages.

The likelihood of missile and aerial strikes across the entire territory of Ukraine remains high.

Within the day, 35 military clashes occurred.

  • The operational situation in the Volyn and Polissya directions remains relatively unchanged.
  • In the Siversk and Slobozhansk directions, the Russian army conducted mortar and artillery shelling on more than 25 populated areas. This includes Liskivschyna, Bohdanove in the Chernihiv region; Seredyna-Buda, Kucheryivka, Khodyne, Stepne, Myropilske in the Sumy region; and Hatyshche, Vovchansk, Synelnykove in the Kharkiv region.
  • In the Kupiansk direction, the Russian army carried out aerial strikes in the areas of Kyslivka and Pishchane in the Kharkiv region. Population centers Gryniankivka, Synkivka, Kupiansk, and Orlanske in the Kharkiv region experienced artillery and mortar shelling.
  • In the Lyman direction, Russian troops conducted unsuccessful offensive actions in the Novoyehorivka area of the Luhansk region. They launched aerial strikes in the regions of Chervonyi Stav in the Kharkiv region, Tverdokhlibove and Makiivka in the Luhansk region, and Vesele in the Donetsk region. More than 30 populated areas, including Nadia and Tverdokhlibove in the Luhansk region, and Siversk, Verkhniokamyanske, Berestove, and Vesele in the Donetsk region, were targeted by Russian artillery fire.
  • In the Bakhmut direction, the Russian army conducted unsuccessful offensive actions in the Klyshchiivka area of the Donetsk region. Over 25 populated areas were affected by Russian artillery shelling, including Zaliznianske, Orikhovo-Vasylivka, Bohdanivka, Chasiv Yar, Klyshchiivka, and Stupochky in the Donetsk region.
  • In the Avdiivka direction, Russian soldiers conducted unsuccessful offensive actions in the Pervomaiske area of the Donetsk region. Population centers Novokalynove, Stepove, Avdiivka, Siverske, Pervomaiske, and Nevelske in the Donetsk region were subjected to Russian artillery shelling.
  • In the Marinka direction, Ukrainian troops continue to hold back the Russian soldiers’ advance in the Marinka area of the Donetsk region. The Russian army carried out an aerial strike in the Krasnohorivka area of the Donetsk region. Population centers Krasnohorivka, Marinka, Kurakhove, Novomykhailivka, Kostiantynivka, and Hostre in the Donetsk region experienced artillery fire.
  • In the Shakhtarsk direction, Ukrainian military successfully repelled Russian troops’ attacks in the Vuhledar area of the Donetsk region. The Russian army launched aerial strikes in the regions of Vuhledar, Vremivka, Blahodatne, Staromayorsk, and Urozhayne in the Donetsk region. Over 10 populated areas, including Vuhledar, Prechystivka, Zolota Nyva, Maksymivka, Blahodatne, and Urozhayne in the Donetsk region, were affected by Russian artillery fire.
  • In the Zaporizhzhia direction, the Russian army carried out aerial strikes in the areas of Mala Tokmachka, Robotyne, and Novodanylivka in the Zaporizhzhia region. More than 20 populated areas, including Novoandriivka, Shcherbaky, Pavlivka, Piatikhatky, Stepove, and Kamianske in the Zaporizhzhia region, were affected by Russian artillery fire.
  • In the Kherson direction, Khreshchenivka, Dmytrivka, Mykilske, Kherson, and Dniprovke in the Kherson region were affected by Russian artillery shelling.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Armed Forces continue their offensive operation in the Melitopol direction, consolidating their positions on achieved frontlines, and carrying out counter-battery measures.

During the day, the aviation of the Ukrainian army conducted 10 strikes on personnel concentration areas and 1 strike on Russian anti-aircraft missile system.

Rocket troops and artillery units hit 1 Russian anti-aircraft missile system and 3 artillery positions on firing positions during the day.
