Ihor Klymenko, the head of the National Police of Ukraine reported that this morning, on January 18, 2023, a helicopter of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine crashed in Brovary, the Kyiv region. As a result of the crash, the leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine died: the Minister Denys Monastyrsky, the First Deputy Minister Yevhen Yenin, and State Secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Yuriy Lubkovych. According to preliminary information, 18 people died and 29 were injured, including 15 children.

“This morning, on January 18, 2023, a helicopter of the State Emergency Service crashed in Brovary. As a result of the crash, the leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs died: the Minister, the First Deputy Minister and the State Secretary. In total, 16 people are known to have died, including 2 children. Of them, 9 were on board of the helicopter. 22 victims are in hospital, including 10 children. All specialized and specialized services work on site. The inspection of the scene is ongoing,” explained the head of the National Police of Ukraine.
Later it became known that the helicopter fell near a kindergarten and a residential building.
The rotorcraft, which crashed in Brovary, was performing the tasks of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine. The leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine was flying to the hottest spot of hostilities of war in Ukraine.
Later, the Head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration Oleksiy Kuleba said that the number of victims of the helicopter crash in Brovary, the Kyiv region, has increased to 18 people, including 3 children.
“As of 10:30 a.m., there are 18 dead, including 3 children. There are 29 wounded, including 15 children,” said Oleksiy Kuleba.
According to the preliminary version of the investigation, the cause of the helicopter crash in Brovary was the pilot’s mistake. The helicopter was flying in the fog and hit the roof of the kindergarten.
