Zaporizhia NPP disconnects power unit No. 6 for troubleshooting

Zaporizhia nuclear power plant (NPP) has disconnected power unit No. 6 from the country`s power grid to eliminate leakage in the generator gas system, state company Energoatom reported.

It is planned to reconnect the power unit to the grid on April 13.

As of April 11, 2016, three power units operated at Zaporizhia NPP. No reports have been made on any malfunctions of basic equipment at the existing units.

Total generators capacity amounts to 2,930 MW. Power unit No. 1 at Zaporizhia NPP is undergoing the 115th day of scheduled major repairs. Power unit No. 2 at Zaporizhia NPP sees the 57th day of scheduled intermediate repairs.

”Radiation conditions on the industrial site and in the radiation surveillance zone of Zaporizhia NPP have not changed,” as noted in the report.

Ukraine ranks seventh in the world in terms of the installed capacity of its nuclear power generating units. Energoatom operates four nuclear power plants in Ukraine with 15 power generating units, all with VVER-type reactors. Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, operating six power units with a total capacity of 6 GW, is Europe`s largest.
