“Russia’s aggression against Ukraine has highlighted the continued importance of assuring the security of the NATO alliance. Canada has deployed Canadian Armed Forces units and personnel to Central and Eastern Europe as part of its contribution to NATO assurance measures to reinforce the alliance’s collective defence,” states the press release
Minister Nicholson said that the Russian Federation has failed to fulfill the Minsk Agreements:
“It must be made clear to Moscow that its continued failure to match words with deeds will result in further costs to the Russian Federation. It is inexcusable that the Putin regime has failed to make good on its commitments under the Minsk Agreements. Canada commends the Ukrainian people on their courage and resilience in the face of Russian aggression. We will continue to stand alongside them as a vocal supporter.”
“Along with its NATO allies, Canada continues to call on Russia to cease support of its proxies in Ukraine, including by halting the flow of weapons and militants across the border, and to withdraw its military forces from within Ukraine and along the border,” states the press release.
