On January 31, 2023, it became known, that the Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orban, said that his country borders the German-speaking countries in the west, and the Russians in the east, having “forgotten” Ukraine. He stated this during the festive dinner in honor of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.

“I also told President Aliyev that he may have an imperfect friend in Hungary. He said that this is very interesting, but there is something more important here: that countries understand each other only when they have similar strategic and geostrategic positions. And you don’t need to be a nuclear physicist to see it right away: Azerbaijan borders Iran in the south and Russia in the north; German-speaking people live to the west of Hungary, and Russians to the east. So we know the situation and we know how difficult it is to govern well life of the nation under such circumstances,” said Viktor Orban.
Mentioning German-speaking people, the Hungarian Prime Minister obviously meant Austria, and did not mention Ukraine at all, immediately “populating” it with Russians.
Last week, the Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orban, at a meeting with journalists in Budapest, outlined his position on the current situation of the Russian-Ukrainian war, from which it follows that he does not believe in the victory of Ukraine and believes that it is gradually turning into an ungovernable ruin.
According to Viktor Orban, Russia’s goal is to turn Ukraine into an ungovernable ruin so that the West cannot claim it “as a prize.” According to him, Russians have already succeeded in this, as Ukraine is now a “no man’s land” like Afghanistan.
He also said that if Ukrainians cross the Russian border with Western weapons, “the future will be so bright that the West will have to put on sunglasses.”
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine summoned the Hungarian ambassador István Íjgyártó on January 30, 2023, to protest statements of Viktor Orban.
