Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin on Thursday received UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs Jeffrey Feltman and UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Valerie Amos.
During the meeting the sides discussed practical ways of using UN opportunities for a peaceful settlement of the situation in eastern Ukraine, provoked by Russian aggression, including the mitigation of its humanitarian consequences, the press service of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry reported.
“UN officials expressed the readiness of UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to continue his personal involvement in this process by providing good services. The organization will support in every way the efforts to find diplomatic solutions to settling and improving the humanitarian situation in the east of the state,” reads the report.
Klimkin, in turn, expressed an interest in further active cooperation with the UN, particularly in the context of mobilizing international humanitarian assistance and monitoring the situation in the protection of fundamental human rights and freedoms in the east of the state and in Crimea.
