The Joint Declaration of Remembrance and Solidarity of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and The Sejm of the Republic of Poland Sejm with Poland, adopted in Kyiv Thursday, notes the need to boost efforts for carrying out unbiased research on certain historical issues.
Rada Speaker Andriy Parubiy said that the text was also supported by the committee of the Lithuanian Seimas, adding that the document was to be considered by the Polish Sejm the same day.
At the same time, head of the Rada Committee on Foreign Affairs Hanna Hopko said that Lithuania will join the move soon.
”We believe in the need to intensify unbiased historical research and the need to deter forces that lead to tension between our countries,” the declaration reads.
The document says that the legislators are passing it to honor the memory of millions of lives lost during WW II.
”They condemn the foreign aggressors who tried to destroy our independence,” reads the draft.

”We draw attention to the fact that the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact signed between the two totalitarian regimes – the Communist Soviet Union and Nazi Germany – on August 23, 1939 led to the start of the World War II September 1, caused by German aggression, which on September 17 was joined by the Soviet Union. These events resulted in the occupation of Poland by Germany and the Soviet Union and mass repressions against our peoples.”
In addition, the MPs stress that Russia`s aggressive foreign policy, the occupation of Crimea, support and conduct of military intervention in eastern Ukraine, violation of the basic norms of international law and agreements concluded with Ukraine, the Kremlin`s failure to observe these agreements and waging hybrid information warfare are ”a threat to peace and security throughout Europe.”
The parliaments also supported the strengthening of NATO-Ukraine cooperation and Ukraine`s ultimate goal to join the Bloc.
”We call on all European partners to show unity and international solidarity and protect the united Europe from the external aggression,” the declaration says.
