Ukraine`s chief banker names bankrupt banks, largest debtors for refinancing

Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) Valeria Gontareva has told reporters debts of insolvent banks to the NBU as of today are estimated at UAH 45.2 billion.

Gontareva claimed that insolvent banks own the regulator some UAH 45.2 billion in terms of refinancing.

According to the official, the largest debtors are the following banks: Nadra – with UAH 9.8 billion in debt (bank owned by Dmytro Firtash), Delta – with UAH 8 billion (Mykola Lahun), Financial Initiative and VABank – with UAH 7.2 billion and UAH 3 billion, respectively (Oleh Bakhmatyuk), Finance and Credit – with UAH 6.3 billion (Kostyantyn Zhevago), and Imexbank – with UAH 3.4 billion (Leonid Klimov).

Earlier, at her Monday presser in Kyiv, Valeria Gontareva announced her resignation, saying she would leave office May 10.
