Tallinn City Hall on Wednesday decided to establish a square in Ukraine in the Estonian capital.

The city commission on toponyms suggested that the council considered three possible locations for the future square.

“The worthiest of them seemed to be the option to create a square in Ukraine in Lembitu Park, which is located behind the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. For several reasons, it is a symbolic place. Almost all buildings in this sector were destroyed during the March bombing of 1944. Iceland Square is located on the other side, so Ukraine Square and Iceland Square together would form such a complete ensemble, “said the Deputy Mayor.

“Ukraine Square could officially appear in Tallinn until the summer. We do not plan to delay this process. On the contrary, we will try to do it as soon as possible, but there are also certain procedural deadlines. For example, public discussion requires some time to allow people to express their opinions.”

According to Vimm, the idea of creating Ukraine Square in Tallinn was also discussed with the Ambassador of Ukraine to Estonia.
