At the PACE (Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe) session in Strasbourg, France in January 2017, the Ukrainian delegation will raise the issue of illegal detention of Ukrinform journalist Roman Sushchenko and film director Oleg Sentsov in Russia, as well as persecution of Crimean journalist Mykola Semena and Crimean Tatar media in Crimea.

Volodymyr Aryev, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine (Parliament) Permanent Delegation to the PACE, said that the discussion topics in January’s PACE session would be the illegal detention of Ukrainians (journalist Roman Sushchenko, film director Oleg Sentsov) in Russia, the persecution in the occupied Crimea of the journalist Mykola Semena and the Crimean Tatar media.
“My report will focus on the state of freedom of speech in Europe. I will outline the situation of Roman Sushchenko in a separate subparagraph… There will be a call for his release, for release of Sentsov. I will touch upon the persecution of the Crimean Tatar media in Crimea, persecution of journalist Crimean journalist Mykola Semena,” said Volodymyr Aryev.
Volodymyr Ariev will present his report on January 25th, 2017, it will also be organized the screening of a film about children in Donbas and the humanitarian situation in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
