The summit of EU leaders, which is being held in Brussels, has decided to grant Ukraine the status of a candidate for EU membership.

On June 23, the heads of state and government of the European Union member states at a summit in Brussels decided to grant Ukraine the status of a candidate for EU membership.
“Agreement. EUCO has just decided on EU candidate status to Ukraine and Moldova. A historic moment. Today marks a crucial step on your path towards the EU. Congratulations to the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the President of Moldova Mia Sandu and the people of Ukraine and Moldova. Our future is together.”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy welcomed the decision, calling it “a unique and historic moment” in relations with the 27-nation bloc.
Moldovan President Maia Sandu tweeted that the decision was a “strong signal of support for Moldova and our citizens.”
