“About 600 ships have already left Ukrainian ports. 16 million tons of agricultural products were exported. But the potential is not fully realized due to the reluctance of the aggressor country [Russia – ed.] to actively inspect ships in the Bosphorus,” said the First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Taras Vysotskyi.
It is noted that now the volume of vessel passage is three to four times less than the capacity of the infrastructure of the three large ports of Odesa (a city in the south of Ukraine). That is why negotiations continue at a high state level, first of all, with our partners – the UN and Turkey – regarding the solution to this situation.
In particular, it will provide an opportunity to get the necessary food for tens of millions of people on time. This is also important for the Ukrainian farmer because it will significantly reduce the cost of logistics, and therefore, Ukrainian farmers will receive a higher price, they will have more opportunities to sow everything in time in the spring.
Uaposition memo: Ukraine, the United Nations and Turkey agreed to extend the “initiative for the safe transportation of agricultural products across the Black Sea” for another 120 days in Istanbul on November 17, 2022. It started working on July 22, 2022, and the first ship with Ukrainian food within its borders left the port of Odesa on August 1, 2022.
