“I’m not saying that not much needs to be done, but we know very well that the EU is ready to help you, and the Ukrainian authorities know what needs to be done. The implementation of these recommendations does not require historical innovations.
I am very proud that at my meetings so far after June 23, there is an understanding of the urgency and a genuine desire to implement these recommendations within the Ukrainian leadership, ministers and Zelenskyy’s advisers. Perhaps in some areas, the greater challenge for the EU will be to maintain the pace to start discussing the details of some of these recommendations as soon as possible, but for most of them we also have details,” said Maasikas.
He stressed that there are no special problems in this list that would make it impossible to do this in wartime.
The Ambassador drew attention to the fact that this list is not a requirement, but a recommendation to Ukraine, which is a sign of confidence in the country. He also reported that the work has already been done in all directions that are currently included in the recommendations, and the matter is ongoing.
“Let’s speak about the judicial reform. Last summer, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted two innovative laws: on the High Council of Justice and the High Qualification Commission of Judges, which actually provide for a complete restructuring of the judicial system.”
