Ukraine cuts gas consumption 16%

Since the beginning of 2014, Ukraine consumed by 16% less natural gas against the same period of the previous year.
Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenuk told the government meeting, the Cabinet’s press service informs.
“If to take a period of time, when the government started to become actively engaged in the economy of natural gas and setting of limits, and this is actually from April, here the saving volumes reach more than 20%,” he noted.
At the same time, Yatseniuk noted, “this is not enough in order to easily pass winter. And those measures, which are taken now by the government on the economy of natural gas consumption and diversification of energy consumption, are very important in order to pass through the heating season.”
The Premier reminded that now Ukraine purchases gas from European partners by the European market price, “which is much lower against a price proposed by Russia a year ago.”
“We economized about USD 0.5 billion on the purchase of gas from our European partners,” he said.
