Ukraine Cabinet approves Concept of health care reform

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine at its Wednesday meeting approved the Concept of health care reform and a number of regulations aimed at its implementation, an UNIAN correspondent reports.

”The decision has been adopted,” said Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman.

Ahead of the passing of the Concept, Deputy Health Minister Pavlo Kovtoniuk noted that the Concept envisaged a gradual introduction in Ukraine of a health insurance system.

”That`s because health care is not only about diseases, but also about the quality of medical services. However, unfortunately, our system today is a source of financial disaster,” he said.

According to Kovtoniuk, this issue could be resolved only through the introduction of an insurance system.

”What is the solution for this problem? It is a national health insurance system, which means we our money, the money of taxpayers, are allocated for the services provided to each of us. Our Concept provides for the model of such a system and a path consisting of several stages to implement it in Ukraine,” said Kovtoniuk.
