Turkey`s top diplomat slams EU freezing membership talks

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu harshly criticized the European Parliament`s resolution calling for the suspension of negotiations on Turkey`s accession to the European Union, according to Anadolu.

”Turkey has always stated that it is ready to accept any constructive decision of the EU institutions, including objective criticism. However, when there is bias, Ankara stands against it. Such decisions have no legal force for us…” Cavusoglu said, Anadolu reports.

Turkish Foreign Minister believes that the EU should ”first of all review their own positions and policies.”

As UNIAN reported earlier, November 24 the European Parliament approved a resolution on the suspension of negotiations on Turkey`s accession to the EU.

The document calls for the freezing of negotiations on Turkey`s membership in the EU in light of the situation that has arisen in the country after the failed military coup July 15, and the state of emergency that had been introduced in Turkey.
