Tobias Ellwood, Chair of the House of Commons Defence Select Committee, believes that an attack on Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant will provoke a response from the military forces of NATO countries. He said it on Twitter on August 19, 2022.
“Let’s make it clear now: ANY deliberate damage causing potential radiation leak to a Ukrainian nuclear reactor would be a breach of NATO’s Article 5.”
This was also confirmed by a member of the House of Representatives from the state of Illinois of the USA, Adam Kinzinger on Twitter.
“This really isn’t even up for debate. Any leak will kill people in NATO countries, that’s an automatic article 5.”
Uaposition memo: According to Article 5 of the NATO charter, in the event that any of the member states of the Alliance becomes the victim of an armed attack, all other members of the Alliance, without exception, will consider this act of violence as an armed attack against them all and will take all measures they deem appropriate to assist the member Alliance that was attacked.
