The Russians have been controlling Zaporizhzhia NPP since the beginning of March. Now the occupiers are using the NPP as a bridgehead to deploy new military equipment.

According to Kotin, the situation at Zaporizhzhia NPP is becoming increasingly tense every day.

“Missile complexes are brought there, from which the other side of the Dnipro is shelled – this is the territory of Nikopol,” said the president of NAEK “Energoatom”.

He added that the communication line between Zaporizhzhia TPP and Nikopol was damaged 3 days ago, but it has already been restored.

According to Kotin, there are about 500 Russian military personnel at the nuclear power plant, who control plant. The occupiers also placed heavy equipment and explosives there.

Now “Energoatom” is waiting for a response from the IAEA. Kotin reminded that on March 3, the board of directors of the IAEA adopted a resolution that Russia should withdraw troops from nuclear facilities on the territory of Ukraine.

According to the head of “Energoatom”, at that time the Russians controlled only the Chornobyl NPP. And the very next day, the Zaporizhzhia NPP was also seized.

“Since March 4, there has been no reaction from the IAEA, as we would like it to be. Our Ministry of Foreign Affairs sends messages, but they (IAEA – ed.) do not make statements about the release of the territory of the ZNPP,” Kotin emphasized.

He also added that even though the Russians physically control the Zaporizhzhia NPP, the plant works on the energy system of Ukraine.
