The European Commission has developed a proposal to add violations of EU sanctions to the list of criminal offenses.

The Commission proposes to include in the list of criminal offenses participation in actions or activities aimed at directly or indirectly circumventing sanctions, including by concealing assets. It is also proposed to add a refusal to freeze assets owned, held, or controlled by a sanctioned person or organization.The same about trade – the import or export of goods that are subject to trade bans.
Once EU member states have agreed to the Commission’s initiative to expand the EU’s list of crimes, the Commission will present a legislative proposal.
