“The EU is working with Ukraine and ENTSO-E to increase electricity trade between Ukraine and the EU to support Ukraine and provide a lower carbon alternative for neighboring member states.”
It is noted that Europe is now engaged in the development of its energy network in order to diversify gas supplies and provide them to those countries that need them.
Earlier, the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine reported that the export of Ukrainian electricity to the EU will give Europe the opportunity to reduce the consumption of Russian gas by 17%.
Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal also stated that the export of Ukrainian electricity to the EU can bring Ukraine more than UAH 70 billion per year.
The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said that Europe should be prepared for the worst-case scenario with Russian gas. Russia is not a reliable energy supplier and the EU should be ready for a complete stoppage of Russian gas supplies sooner or later.
