Serious escalation in Eastern Ukraine: heavy shelling in Luhansk sector

Combined Russian-separatist forces attacked Ukrainian army positions in eastern Ukraine 68 times in the past 24 hours, including 36 barrages in the Luhansk sector, 19 in the Mariupol sector, and 13 in the Donetsk sector, according to the press center of the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) headquarters.

In the Luhansk sector, the enemy resorted to armed provocations near the villages of Novo-Oleksandrivka, Novozvanivka, Triokhizbenka and Stanytsia Luhanska, and the town of Popasna where the militants used small arms, machine guns and grenade launchers.

Popasna, the villages of Novo-Oleksandrivka and Stepne came under sniper fire. The militants also used 120mm and 82mm mortars to shell Novo-Oleksandrivka and Novozvanivka. Additionally, the occupiers fired from banned 122mm artillery systems and used infantry fighting vehicles to attack Novo-Oleksandrivka and Novozvanivka. Further, an anti-aircraft gun was used to shell Novo-Oleksandrivka.

In the Donetsk sector, Russia`s hybrid military force fired grenade launchers, machine guns and small arms near the town of Avdiyivka, and the villages of Novhorodske, Kamianka and Zaitseve. The enemy also used 120mm mortars to shell Avdiyivka and the village of Novoselivka Druha.

In the Mariupol sector, the militants violated the ceasefire near the town of Maryinka, and the villages of Shyrokyne, Talakivka, Starohnativka and Hnutove, using rocket-propelled grenades, machine guns and small arms. An antitank missile system was launched to hit areas near the village of Slavne.

What was more, the occupiers used infantry fighting vehicles to attack the villages of Talakivka and Lebedynske. The enemy also lobbed 82mm mortar shells into Talakivka. A sniper was working in Maryinka.

The Ukrainian army spotted one enemy UAV over Donbas in the last day, the headquarters said.
