The Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine Oleksandr Tkachenko informed on April 28, 2023, that losses in the field of culture due to Russia’s war in Ukraine today amount to almost $7 billion.

“We currently estimate the damage in the cultural sphere at approximately $7 billion. And this is not only due to the bombing but in general the loss of income and everything else. Therefore, when we talk about recovery, we always pay attention to the fact that recovery must also take place in the cultural sphere,” explained the Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine.
According to Oleksandr Tkachenko, at least in the last six months, the understanding of the importance of culture in Ukraine has increased.
As of March 25, 2023, 1,373 objects of cultural infrastructure, excluding monuments of cultural heritage, were damaged in Ukraine due to the full-scale war of Russia. Almost a third of them – 514 objects – were completely destroyed.
According to the Ministry of Culture, in general, cultural infrastructure suffered the greatest losses and damages in Donetsk, Kharkiv, Kyiv, Kherson, Mykolaiv and Luhansk regions.
