A Russian warfare group consisting of Russia`s “Admiral Kuznetsov” aircraft carrier, “Pyotr Veliky” nuclear power guided missile cruiser and two destroyers are getting ready to launch a strike on areas near the Syrian city of Aleppo within the next 24 hours, according to Russian media.
The attack, which will likely engage Kalibr cruise missiles and aircraft, will target Daesh militants ”at distant approaches to Aleppo, excluding [its] residential areas,” Gazeta.ru wrote on Tuesday evening with reference to a source at Russia`s Defense Ministry.
”The main goal of the group – together with the vessels of Russia`s Black Sea fleet, strategic and long-range air forces and aircraft from the Russian Khmeimim airbase – is to carry out missile strikes on the terrorists outside of Aleppo who are attempting to break into the city”, the source added.
The source did not specify which ships the Kalibr cruise missiles would be launched from.
