Russia has recently recruited more than 600 volunteers in the occupied areas of eastern Ukrainian Donbas to take part in hostilities in Syria, Ukraine`s Border Guard Service press secretary Oleh Slobodyan told a Kyiv briefing Thursday, October 13, according to an UNIAN correspondent.
”The movement of Russian troops continues through the temporarily uncontrolled stretch of the border in the territory of Donetsk and Luhansk regions. At the moment, activities continue aimed at the selection of volunteers from among the Russian mercenaries in the occupied areas of Donbas for participation in the Syria fighting as part of the Russian contingent,” he said.
”Several organized groups, the so-called volunteers, totaling some 600 people, recently left the occupied areas of Donetsk region through the section of the Ukrainian-Russian beyond [the Ukrainian government`s] control for Rostov-on-Don. They crossed into Russia armed and in full gear. In the near future, they will be deployed in Syria by yet another `Syrian Express`,” Slobodyan said.
