It would be the last day for Russia if the Kremlin ever went for a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, according to first president of Ukraine Leonid Kravchuk, 112 Ukraine TV Channel reported.
”Even if we imagine that Russia will go for wide-ranging steps in Ukraine and the question will arise of Ukraine`s occupation, it will be the last day for Russia,” Kravchuk said, according to 112 Ukraine.
”That`s because I believe it is impossible to get Ukraine into obedience, keep it in obedience – economically, politically, and spiritually,” he said. ”I am convinced that Russian politicians are not so primitive to fail to see it.”
He added that the Kremlin prefers point pressure points that they want to exploit through Donbas.
”That point pressure us applied in different variations,” he said. ”But I don`t see the option for them to go for an all-out war against Ukraine,” Kravchuk said.
In March 2014, after the introduction of its troops, Russia annexed the Ukrainian territory of Crimea, having set up a so-called ”referendum” on self-determination. The self-appointed Crimean government said that 96.77% of the voters supported the idea of Crimea`s accession to the Russian Federation. March 18, 2014, the Kremlin signed the so-called ”accession agreement” regarding Crimea and the strategic port city of Sevastopol.
Western powers have not recognized the annexation of Crimea and imposed sanctions against Russia. The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has officially announced the date of the beginning of the temporary occupation of Crimea: February 20, 2014.
